The best way we can support Norfolk families is by creating and sustaining high-paying jobs that provide stability and growth opportunities.
I will lead the charge in collaborating with federal, state, and regional organizations to secure funding that drives further investment in key industries like wind energy, offshore drilling, high-tech port facilities, and modern maritime construction. These industries not only align with Norfolk’s strengths but also position our city as a leader in the green economy and advanced manufacturing sectors.
To support these investments, we must prioritize expanding the fiber ring to our core commercial and industrial areas, ensuring that businesses have access to the ultra-high-speed internet they need to thrive. Equally important is upgrading our roadways and transportation infrastructure to handle the anticipated growth, facilitating the efficient movement of goods and people throughout the region.
Collaborating with groups like the Hampton Roads Alliance, 757 Collab, and the Norfolk Innovation Corridor will be crucial in attracting and retaining industries poised to make significant investments in our region. By expanding collaborative workspaces, fostering innovation hubs, and streamlining business processes, we can attract high-paying jobs to Norfolk and solidify our city as the dynamic business center of the 757.
Small businesses are often overlooked as a source of high paying quality jobs, but they are the backbone of our local economy and play a crucial role in job creation. I am committed to making Norfolk the premier city in Hampton Roads for setting up and growing a business. This means streamlining the permitting process, offering targeted incentives, and providing resources that help small businesses thrive. By fostering an environment where entrepreneurs can easily start and expand their ventures, we can create a vibrant economy that benefits everyone.
Moreover, Norfolk's military workforce is a vital asset, and we must continue to support both their existing roles and their transition to the private sector. By offering targeted transition programs and leveraging the skills and experience of our veterans, we can ensure that they have opportunities to thrive in civilian careers, further strengthening Norfolk's economy.
